The New Child

We have so enjoyed welcoming the new children to our school. They are a delightful group of mostly three year old newcomers. The children seem very keen to learn about their classroom: where everything is located, how to take out their work and return it to the shelf, tuck in their chair and roll up their work mats. They like to know how to mop up a spill, serve their own snack and wash their dishes.

We have watched as some children separated from their mom or dad for their first time into new and uncertain territory and how they found their feet, comfort and independence.

I just love, love, love, the wonder new children bring to the classroom. I love the excitement on their faces as they discover they can do anything they set their mind to. It is that keen and natural desire to please and to just do that is so much fun to watch. So please embrace the table setting and moping up and endless dusting with perhaps too much water as it is so very important to your child and their natural development.

Curry in a Hurry

So tonight I finished cooking curries for the family that bought my curry dinner. My kitchen smells amazing and it will last for a few days. Too bad I didn't make any extra for us. Speaking of this I wanted to say Thank you to all of you again for coming out to the Wine Tasting and supporting the event and Ms. Deanna and her family. The evening was a big success and we were able to raise $6500.00 for Ms. Deanna and her family! So thank you from the bottom of my heart! Happy Dinner Leanne and Craig!

The Magic of Language

Today, I was in awe of the children as I sat working with a little girl and one of our lovely sound baskets. The sounds come so easily and the child is always so excited to uncover the treasures that await in the basket.

I am consumed with revamping the language section right now and, in doing so, very excited about all the new possibilities that go along with it. I was thinking that you could have a small basket of objects and paper with printed letters (LOWER CASE PLEASE) so that your child can keep going with it. You can also have them create their own labels and label all the objects around your house. It is OK if it is not spelled correctly. It is amazing how the phonetics really work and how the child starts to unravel all the secrets of reading. The big thing is to make it fun and have fun with it!

End of School Year PARTY!

It is that time of year again when we close up a bit early and shut down the street for our Party. Mark your calendar for Friday June 18th at 4:00 p.m. We ask that all parents arrive by 4:oo p.m. for pick up on this day. We will not allow children out to the street party until their parent arrives. The event is potluck so please check out the sign up sheet above the attendance book on the bulletin board. We will need everything! I have a few special things planned for everyone so plan to come. It is a lot of fun for all and a really great way to say goodbye and wind down the school year.
